Homework Expectations
2nd Grade Homework Expectations
Blue Take Home Folder
Please be sure to check your child's take home folder daily and initial in the parent square. Here is where you will find your child's will response to reading, sight words, notes from me, and a weekly seven habits reflection.
Reading
Your child should be reading for 20 minutes a day. This can be from your child’s guided reading book (when reading groups start) or a book of choice. There will also be a reading response that goes with the guided reading book that needs to be completed nightly, Monday - Thursday in the blue take home folder.
Math
Your child should be practicing math facts at home. Math facts (1+1, 3+4, 7-2, 6-4, 11+5, etc.) are a simple way for your child to gain confidence in working with place value. A good way to practice is to get a set of addition and subtraction flash cards. In second grade we work to the thousands place, adding and subtracting up to 1,200.
Sight Words
Your child will be responsible for recognizing and spelling over 300 sight words in second grade! All the sight words can be found in the blue take home folder and your child will write in the 10 sight words we will work on each week. Please review these weekly words with your child at home.
Thank you for your cooperation!
